side note | finding beauty in failure.
photo report of a saturday evening drive and wrong camera settings — feat. our 1987 porsche 944 s.
our 1987 Porsche 944 always is a source of joy for us. that’s why we own it. it opens doors (literally) to explore with no goal in mind. this kind of wandering isn’t always easy to come by and having something that invites this habit has been really fun. it also creates opportunities to discover other new things. for me, one such thing is photography. that is with an actual camera and not in auto mode.
finding new areas in which we can go from not knowing to knowing is one of the reasons why we started this venture. currently, i do not know how to take a picture without the support of an algorithm. but i’m eager to learn how to deliberately capture a certain moment. while this means missing pictures due to wrong settings, every shot is a small moment where i understand more about how this machine in my hands works. giving yourself this freedom to fail is something liberating. with a camera you can also look back on where you went wrong and understand how do take a better picture next time around.
to show you the outcomes of my most recent detour: below are a few shots from my last drive with our 944. no destination in mind. just a freshly washed car and the right light. wandering to find a beautiful backdrop to put my camera to work — all be it with the wrong zoom setting (or rather with me not noticing that the camera was set to a digital crop).
not the pictures i wanted but an evening well spent wandering and learning to find beauty in failure.
